There is no warning before a timing belt goes. It is fine, and then the engine is scrap. Every belt has a mileage and a time interval, and the time one is the one people forget.
We fit complete kits — belt, tensioner, idlers, and the water pump where it's belt-driven. Fitting a belt and leaving a fifteen-year-old pump behind it is how a good job turns into a coolant leak and a second strip-down six months later.
Timing marks are set to the data, tensioners to spec rather than by thumb, and the engine turned over by hand and rechecked before it's ever started. Chains aren't fit-and-forget either — a rattle on cold start is the tell. We do belt and chain work across Monaghan, Cavan and the border counties.

Complete kit, not just a belt
Belt, tensioner and all idler pulleys replaced as a set. Old bearings behind a new belt are the most common cause of a repeat failure.

Water pump replaced
Where the pump is belt-driven it comes out too, as standard. Same labour, fraction of the cost, and it removes the likeliest reason to go back in.

Set to spec and recorded
Timing marks aligned to manufacturer data, engine rotated by hand and rechecked before first start, then date, mileage and part numbers written up for next time.
